Russian River and Redwoods

Grapes and Redwoods go way back in Sonoma. Wine was often made in Redwood tanks.

There is a famous story about our own Pinelli Building having a redwood tank full of wine.

The wine was used by Augustino Pinelli to pay the quarry workers employed by the Pinelli 's in 1890. The biggest business in Sonoma at the time.

In any case, this redwood tank was used to put out a fire on Sonoma Plaza in 1911.
