Bear Flag Wine is created by us exclusively for Sonoma Wine Shop customers. We work with hundreds of wineries each year, and as such have fantastic sources of grapes and wine for this custom blended creation. We find a few barrels of special wine that is unlike any on the market. We work with the winery on custom blending and bottling to our desire, then make these wines available at fantastic prices.

We feel strongly about the proud history of California. California is truely a land of plenty, and we like to share that with our customers and friends. Our 1891 Sonoma Plaza storefront is located directly across the street from California's famous Bear Flag Monument. The very first California Flag, the famous Bear Flag, was raised here on June 14, 1846 to declare California's independence. The original flag was drawn by William L. Todd, a nephew of Mary Todd Lincoln (wife of Abraham Lincoln). A good account can be read at the SF Museum and at the official Bear Flag Society site. General Vallejo's speech in 1876 was recently reported on by Gaye LeBaron of the Press Democrat.

Wine grapes were first brought to Sonoma, California in 1857. With this long history, California wine has become a favorite all over the world. Come visit us and enjoy a bit of California heritage.

Our 2001 North Coast Syrah is a fantastically balanced wine with a dry finish. Syrah grapes from 2 vineyards, one in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley and the other in Mendocino County, provide awesome complexity and fruitiness. A new Syrah clone from France makes the flavors unique. We then added a touch of Dry Creek Viognier, a white wine, for superior aromas and exotic flavors. 400 cases produced.

An excellent wine for any meal. A very approachable and yet unique style highlights the fruit.
